Subject: New gin I just found...
About 2 years ago, I was introduced to Bombay Sapphire. I was amazed at how smooth it was. I got my mother to try some, and, even though she prefers bourbon drinks, she was very pleased with the taste. I always order Sapphire if the bar I'm in has it. Or, at least I did until last night.

I was in a small supper club in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, and ordered a drink before dinner (Sapphire & tonic with a slice of lime). They did not have my brand, but offered me another. It was called Leydens (pronounced "lie-denz"). I took a chance, as the bartender said it was very good.

Holy smokes. You would NOT believe how smooth this stuff is. When I first sipped my drink, I almost called for the waitress to ask if the bartender had forgotten the gin. I thought Sapphire was smooth, but Leydens was superior by far. Apparently, it is triple distilled (Sapphire is double), which is supposed to account for its smooth taste. I did some research (on the 'Net) and discovered a wine tasters review of this product. It was quite interesting. Leydens is imported from Holland.

I still enjoy Bombay Sapphire (there's a bottle of it in my cupboard at home), but I will be looking for this new brand every chance I get.
