Gibson, please.
Which is what Cary Gant says when he sits down opposite Ava Gardner on the train in "North By Northwest". Regular Bombay (yes I can tell the difference) and a couple of skewered cocktail onions. And a little Stock or Noilly Pratt to flavor the ice, in and out. The onions set off the astringent flavor of the gin better than olives do to my taste buds. some salted nuts and oh baby!
I tried a Gibson because its my favorite brand of guitar-I have ten of them-and I thought I should try the drink with the wonderful name. It only took one. I haven't had a G&T since.
"I had never tasted anything so clean and cold in my life". Ernest Hemingway.about martinis When I'm out of onions (sour) I will drink "Josephine Bakers" , black olives stuffed with blue cheese.
I do hope the martini craze is over so that those of us that really enjoy them can go back to doing so in peace.
If you are passng through Chicago, go to the Hotel Intercontinental on North Michigan Avenue about a block north of the river. Best martinis in town. Try the upstairs bar at Italian Village too.
Great site. Thanks.
