Kayak Time
by Paul Chamberlain

One is green, the other...blue,
Who lazily bump along,
Where down the creek the redwing flew,
And sang his blackbird song.

The cattail tops have gone to seed,
And hide the heron, blue,
Who stalks among the stubborn reed,
So subtle to our view.

And so, we move at child's pace,
Paddling among the cover.
For in their time there is no race,
But only nature lovers.

In one given moment...a brief intersection,
I heard the two brothers,
And saw the reflection...
Of others.

Then, it was gone.
The memory only lingered there,
Where happy was not long,
The present state, I heard declare,

" Come on, Daddy, let's go! "
