                       Rain
                       by Andrea Seyfried
                       9-18-99

                       Dark gray shadows the earth.
The scent of the rain carried by the breeze
                       Lifts lace off the windowsill.
                       Drip,
                                     Drip,
                            Drip,
                       raindrops cascading
                       d
                         o
                           w
                             n
                       the window
                       trace the memory of you,
                       of that night,
                       into my head.

                       Outside
                       raindrops peck,
                       miniature kisses upon our faces.
                       Lightning, in the distance illuminates,
                       soft curves of the hillside
like the curves of the body.
                       Thunder echoes between the hills.
                       The earth trembles,
                       powerful; yet gentle.
The grass quivers as the rain intensifies.
                       Our emotions intensify,
                       our bodies clench,
                       and the rain beats on.
