What Love's All About

He was a pilot in the 2nd World War
She was a cashier in a second-hand store
They met at a dance in the firemens' hall
A summer romance and they were married by fall.
Nobody thought it would last very long
But after 45 years, they're still going strong

There's always a light in the shadow of doubt
When you let it shine, that's what love's all about

He was a trucker, drove his rig every day
She had a house where she wanted to stay
He looked for a job that was closer to home
They were both getting tired of sleeping alone
Everyone said the odds were too great to beat
Until she gave up her garden for a passenger seat

There's always a light in the shadow of doubt
When you let it shine, that's what love's all about

He was a lawyer, he knew how to succeed
She was a widow with a family to feed
They met at the church over coffee and tea
He said "I need you more than you'll ever need me"
Everyone thought their situation was bad
Until he changed his career and changed his title to dad.

There's always a light in the shadow of doubt
When you let it shine, that's what love's all about

Now I am a pilgrim and a stranger to most
Don't have much to say, got no reason to boast
But this much I know and can say without fear:
Hope is alive anytime love is near.
And love is alive and hope is right here.
Still here.
